AXEHEAD

Unique ID: WILT-006DFA

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete Neolithic polished axehead, dating to the period 3500 BC- 2200 BC which has been reused as a core. It does not appear to be the butt nor the tip of the axehead, but an uncertain portion of the body. The axehead is broadly lozenge shaped, measuring 69.96mm in length, 56.44mm wide and 34.26mm in thickness, though this varies. In colour, the axehead is creamy-white and flecks of light brown. There is evidence that, after breaking, the axehead was reused as a core, the flaking scars being visible mostly on the sides, with the rest of the axehead being extremely smooth and polished.

No trace of the cortex remains. In total, this polished axehead weighs 133.91g.
