A small medieval copper alloy annular buckle, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1400. The frame is broadly circular in plan, although with a very slightly offset bar showing sings of wear from the copper alloy sheet pin. The pin survives, but has been displaced around the frame. The frame is sub-circular in cross section.
Dimensions: length 12.9mm; width 14.4mm; thickness 4.1mm; weight 1.15g.
See Egan & Pritchard (2002: 58-60 and 69) nos. 28, 55, 72, 88 and 269, the former are all of comparable size, the latter of which is larger has a slight offset bar. Egan and Pritchard (ibid:58) suggest the smaller examples date later 13th to early 14th century and are probably from shoes.
