A leg of a copper alloy vessel, probably a cooking pot or cauldron of Medieval or Post-Medieval date, about AD 1200 - 1600. The leg is Roughly D shaped in cross-section but with deep fluting on the front face (two ridges and three hollows). The foot is also D shaped in plan, but much more rounded, and is semi-conical in profile, giving the impression of a paw. The top edge is an old break and the leg is damaged by bending. It has a patchy light green patina with some sooting. It is 63mm long, 31mm wide and 23mm thick. 109.9g.

Various Medieval pot legs are illustrated in Egan, G. 1998. The Medieval Household. Daily Living c.1150-c.1450, page.164, figure. 132. Egan comments that commonly used cooking vessels in the Medieval period include skillets, ewers, and cauldrons.
