A lead spindle whorl of uncertain date, probably Roman to early Medieval, about AD 43 - 1100. The whorl is cylindrical but has flat faces of unequal size, and thus slightly sloping sides making the cross-section a right-angled trapezoid. This form does not fit neatly into Walton-Roger's typology (Walton Rogers, 2007, Cloth and Clothing in Early Anglo-Saxon England, page 25)and is closest to Gleba's Form B: Cylindrical classification (Alberti, Roman Finds Group Datasheet 7) . The corners are rounded and the whorl is undecorated. It is 24.5mm diameter, 12.2mm tall and 46.98g. The central circular aperture has a diameter of 7.8mm. It has a white patina.
