A Roman silver coin: A counterstamped Roman Republican denarius of Mark Antony dating from 32-31 BC, struck by a travelling mint. The reverse depicts a legionary eagle between two standards and the legend LEG for Legion, with the idientifing number missing (it started either X or V). On the obverse is a galley, right with the legend [ANT AVG] not visible above and [II]I.VIR.R.[PC] below. There is a counterstamp of a letter D or P above the galley. The coin is 16.4mm in diameter and 1.8mm thick. It weighs 3.37gm.
Compare HAMP-751426 which notes that:"These coins were struck by Mark Antony for the use of his fleet and legions when he was preparing for the struggle with Octavius, which culminated in the Battle of Actium on the 2nd of September, 31 BC (Grueber, 1970, 526). Some legionary denarii remained in circulation until the 3rd century AD."
