A cast lead alloy pendant of uncertain date. The object is oval in plan and the upper surface is decorated with ten punched ring-and-dot motifs. Each motif has a central raised dot (or pellet) surrounded by a raised ring within a circular depression. At the top of the object is a small rectangular perforation though which the object may have been suspended. However it may also be a punch mark or a nail hole.

The perforation measures 3mm in width and is 1mm thick allowing only a small attachment such as a leather thong to pass though. It may be a deliberate hole for attachment but could also be a punch mark.

The rear of the object is flat and undecorated. The object has a mid-greyish-green patina. Where the patina has flaked away the surface of the object is grey while where the object has been scraped in recent times, due to the plough or during recovery, is a shiny silver colour.

Dimensions: 35mm in length, 31mm in width, 3mm thick, 27.10g

The object may have been used as a pendant however it is also possible that it could have been a practice piece. A similar object which has been recorded on the PAS database are SF-1B7766. Ring-and-dot motifs have been used to decorate many different object types from the Roman through to the post-medieval period. The patina on this object suggests that it dates to before the post-medieval period.
