A cast, copper alloy zoomorphic spout from a late medieval ewer dating from AD 1400 - 1500. The spout is tubular and terminates in a dog's head with open mouth; the tube spout protrudes from the open mouth. At the other end it curves downwards through ninety degrees and expands into a long, pointed neck where it would have joined the vessel. The head has a moulded nose, prominent, squared brow, and rounded dished ears that protrude above the head; the eyes are not distinguished. There is a ridge along the top of the head. The spout has a dark green patina. It is 67.9mm long, 19.6mm wide and 51.4mm thick. it weighs 85.77gm.

An almost identical spout from a pedestal-base ewer can be found illustrated in Finds Research Group Datasheet 7 (Lewis, 1987, pages4-5, figure 8a). It dates to the 15th century and was found in the moat at Cardiff Castle. Further spouts recorded on the database include HAMP-109444, BERK-135A64, and WAW-D138E8.
