~~Copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative, hinged (dolphin) brooch. The wings are hollow to hold the pin support bar which is made of iron but now heavily corroded resulting in the loss of the pin. The wings are decorated with three transverse raised bands; further decoration on the front of the bow consists of expanded shoulders that flank the head and traces of a double band with recessed borders that run down the front of the bow. The lower part of the bow is truncated resulting in the loss of the catch plate. Date 55-100AD.
