An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy composite buckle with the remains of an integral forked spacer (c. 1350-c. 1450). The plates, pin and most of the spacer prongs are missing. The oval frame is convex at the front, flat at the rear and is bevelled internally at the front and rear. The outer edge is slightly pointed. There is a hole to accommodate a pin-loop which is filled with corroded iron. The incomplete prongs are abraded at the breaks. This buckle is drab green with traces of a darker green patina and iron staining. 'File' marks are visible on the front and rear of the frame and the breaks are abraded. Length: 23.11 mm; width: 19.20 mm; thickness: 4.30 mm. Weight: 2.6 g.
Similar buckles from London have been published and dated c. 1350-c. 1450 (Egan & Pritchard 1991: 80, fig. 49, refs: 325-330).
