Copper alloy brooch. Cast bow and fantail brooch, Mackreth 2011, type TR 4.1bx. Short plain semi-circular or half-cylindrical wings formerly retained pin gear of uncertain form. They are met by the top of a plain bow, which expands in its width towards a central disc with a reserved central dot, and a circular gutter probably formerly retaining enamel, though no colorant remains. Below the disc, a triangular fantail foot bears a pair of deep and possibly incised grooves, again apt to contain enamel though none remains. The edges of the foot are lost, but a slight basal protrusion may suggest that the stub of the catch plate formerly continued to just below the lower edge of the fantail. Suggested date: Early Roman, 70-150.
