Ceramic building material: curved roof tile fragment. A hard fired oxidised fabric with smooth upper and lower faces, probably formed with an extrusion machine. These were introduced in the 1840s, and would reduce clay to a fine paste which would pass through a mechanical shaping to emerge with especially smooth surfaces and crisp edges. The slight curvature of the fragment may suggest it to be from a pantile. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1850-1950.
