Cast lead pan weight, circular in plan and trapezoidal in profile with a flat top and sides that expand slightly to the base. The upper face has an incuse tower with three turrets and above it are stamped 'IIII' for four ounces or four Roman unciae, the origin of the word ounce, which equated to 108 g. The weight weighs 109.9 g or almost 4 ounces averdupois. The underside is marked with an indistinct triangular impression and there is a deep linear transverse groove just beyond this which appears to be later damage.
See WMID-796032 for a similar lead pan weight with four 'IIII' incuse which has the reference: Biggs & Withers (2000) note on page 15 that weights of this type with numerals are consistent with the Roman weight system as well as the averdupois system, thus they could equally be 16th century or later in date.
