An incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative, (dolphin type) brooch dating to the Roman period (c. AD 43-100). The brooch consists of the head with complete wings and end plates, the hinge and spring are both missing. The bow arches from the head and tapers to a worn break roughly half way down the bow. The entire brooch is decorated with a series of ridges: five each on either wing with the inner most ridge, the centre ridge and the outermost ridge bearing incised horizontal line in a rope-like motif. The bow is decorated with three vertical ridges running down its length.. The pin, foot and catchplate are all missing. The brooch has a dark green patina.
