A complete cast copper-alloy strap-mounted harness fitting (terret ring) dating to the early Roman period. Lewis' type 19 'dropped-bar' form. The terret ring is composed of a simple plain oval loop with a thicker sectioned top than base and which has obvious signs of wear to one side. The base of the ring has a rectangular attachment loop which is also rectangular in cross section.
Similar strap-mounted terrets are recorded on the PAS database (in particular, records KENT-367219 and SWYOR-6BEF21) as well as in published literature (Lewis 2015, p. 84, fig. 4.1 xix). The dating for these pieces is based on the very few examples that have been excavated from stratified contexts, which in general corresponds broadly from the post-invasion period to the end of the 2nd century AD.
