An incomplete cast copper-alloy bow brooch of Colchester Derivative type, rearhook subtype, dating to the Roman period, c. 43-100 AD. The pin mechanism itself is missing in old damage, though otherwise the brooch survives relatively intact. It demonstrates a hemi-spherically sectioned winged head, at the midpoint of which is a prominent rearward facing hook. The wings themselves are decorated with a pair of double transverse collars, with a further single collar at their terminal ends. The bow is 'D' shaped in section, demonstrating a double longitudinal ridge on its upper surface which converges around halfway down the brooch. From the rear of the brooch at the lower bow, the remains of the catchplate (broadly triangular in plan) projects. Preserved in fair condition with some encrustation to the rear face of the head, it measures 37.64mm long, 19.88mm wide at its head, and 3.08mm thick at the midpoint of the bow. It weighs 5.42g.
