A complete Medieval copper-alloy zoomorphic mount or stud (c. 1300-c. 1500).

This mount is broadly sub-triangular in plan. It has a moulded design at the front and an integral spike at the rear. The design is that of an animal head, such as a fox, wolf or bear. The forehead is broad and the snout/nose elongated. There is a small ear at each corner. The tapering spike, now bent, is 'D'-shaped in cross-section.

The object is reddish brown with a small area of green patina. Flecks of gilding can be seen at the front.

Length: 11.5mm; width: 7.4mm; thickness: 3.7mm; thickness including spike: 7.3m. Weight: 1.59g.
