A Medieval single looped, D-shaped copper alloy buckle with a lipped frame and a narrowed and offset strap bar, of Meols type 4, dating from AD 1350 - 1450. The frame is rectangular in cross-section, taller than it is wide, and the pointed and projecting lip has an pin notch. Part of the sheet copper alloy plate survives, folded round the bar, with a notch for the missing pin, and recessed corners to accommodate the frame. Iron staining suggests the pin may have been ferrous. The buckle has a dark grey patina. Together with the plate it is 24.2mm long, 15.7mm wide and 2.8mm thick. 1.74g. Similar buckles are illustrated in Griffiths, Philpott and Egan, 2007, Meols: The Archaeology of the North Wirral Coast, page 91.
