The object is a double looped oval framed buckle frame which has a buckle plate attached. Both are made from copper alloy. Egan and Pritchard illustrate a similar example, No. 380-381. These buckles date from the late 13th century to 14th century.

The buckle was originally a sub-oval shape in plan, however one loop is now missing, so now it is more of a ā€˜Dā€™ shape with a spur protruding. The upper surface of the frame has moulded terminals to the narrowed strap bar. There is no notch for the pin on the loop, and the pin is missing. The surface of the frame has traces of red copper alloy corrosion and traces of gilding.

The buckle plate is a copper alloy sheet which has been folded over the strap bar. The sides of the fold, and a central slot have been removed, leaving two folded arms. The upper plate is a large oval shape, whereas the lower plate is a small sub-rectangular shape. The plates are joined by a single copper alloy rivet. Both plates are heavily corroded and abraded.

The buckle weighs 2.58g and measures 25.6mm long and 14.6mm wide.
