PLANO CONVEX KNIFE

Unique ID: NLM-087B53

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Dark grey to black flint, plano-convex knife. A thick flake with covering angled scalar retouch across its dorsal side and with a flat ventral surface. The finder notes the form of the object resembles an arrowhead, though it is too thick and massy to have served as such. This form may arise from battering in antiquity at one side of one end, and the more recent loss of an adjacent chip. The dorsal surface bears a flecking of white patina, and the ventral surface bears a denser spread of similar markings. This tends to suggest that the object has endured exposure to a calcareous environment, though whether to a different degree on the two sides is less certain. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2350-1600 BC.

Length: 34.1mm, Width: 20.1mm, Thickness: 7.0mm, Weight: 5.23gms
