An incomplete cast copper-alloy buckle plate dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. It is missing most of its rear portion, though the front third to half of the plate is still preserved. The buckle plate is manufactured from a single sheet of copper-alloy folded at its midpoint, with a rectangular cut out section at its front edge flanked by two projecting 'tabs' that originally would have housed the strap-bar of the buckle frame. Directly behind this are two parallel circular-sectioned rivets which secure the two sides of the plate together. The front of the plate demonstrates traces of gilding. Preserved in fair condition with a coarse brownish patina, it survives to a length of 12.81mm, 14.34mm wide at its widest point, and 3.37mm thick at its midpoint. It weighs 1.06g.
For a more complete buckle plate of identical form, see PAS record PUBLIC-C670C1.
