A copper-alloy Post-Medieval farthing traders token issued by Frances Smith of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, dating to 1666. As Williamson no. 76.
Obverse: date 1666 within inner pelleted border, *FRANCES.SMITH
Reverse: IN/SVF/FOLK within an inner circle. IN ST EDMONDS BVRY
Farthing trade tokens were first issued in 1648 as a response to the lack of small change, with halfpenny tokens following later. They were finally suppressed under Royal Authority in 1674.
