A misshapen worn lead hexagonal facetted or keeled finger-ring, probably of late Roman date, c.3rd-4th century.
Description: The ring has a hexagonal band which is roughly sub-rectangular in cross-section. The already thick band expands into a rectangular bezel with a number of incised lines. These incised lines are likely attempts at iniitals or letters perhaps 'IVNI' a common latin abreviation for the name Junius. The ring is a cream colour with some light brown patches typical of patinated lead alloy.
Dimensions:26mm high, 28mm wide, 10.5mm thick (at bezel, 7mm at thinnest).
Discussion: This ring is unusual in being produced in lead with which makes pinning down the dates difficult. That being said its' overall form tends to fit a group of late Roman rings discussed by Guiraud (1989), mostly those of her type 2f/2h also to a lesser extent 3e,3f and 3g. A 3rd to 4th century date is therefore suggested.
