An incomplete post-medieval copper alloy double oval buckle frame. AD 1550-1650. The buckle has a moulded floral decoration. It is missing its pin. The oval loops have pointed outer edges and are D-shaped in cross-section. The central pointed area contains a moulded rosette on the outer edge. There are further moulded rosettes at either end of the stap bar. All moulded decoration is now very worn. The strap bar is very thin and is triangular in cross-section. The reverse of the buckle is flat and undecorated.
The buckle has a mid green patina with traces of a black lacquer. It measures 40.7in length, 22.4mm in width, 2.6mm in thickness and weighs 7.3grams..
A similar buckle can be seen in Whitehead (1996), pg. 66, no. 410.
