An incomplete lead or lead alloy button, of Post medieval dating (AD 1600 to AD 1800).
Around 90% of the button is present, consisting of the head. The shank is missing, presumed lost in antiquity.
The head is a flat disc, with bevelled edges. Due to abrasion, the decorative detail on the front of the button is hard to determine. On the reverse, there is a central ridge, with two smaller ridges, one to either side. The central ridge is where the shank would have been secured.
The button has a diameter of 24.7 mm and is 6.4 mm thick. It weighs 18.5 g.
Several similar style lead alloy buttons have been recorded on the PAS database, including YORYM-872CAC. It is possible that it may be a small weight or a large thick token but the seam on the reverse is more indicative that it is a button.
