BUCKLE

Unique ID: WILT-B7FAE7

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Copper alloy medieval buckle plate, without its frame or pin. It is 41.5mm long and 18mm wide at the open end (the backplate is 15mm wide). The 'top' plate narrows to 17mm where the plate steps inward to 14mm wide before bending over to become the backplate.
At the bent-over end there is a hole for the pin 2mm in diameter. Two rivet holes with rivets in situ 3mm in diameter are at the open end, and there is another roughly at the centre of the plate, also in situ. This holds a piece of leather between the two surfaces. The gap between the two is 3mm.
The metal is green but the patina smooth and shiny. The top-plate has many scratches, horizontal and vertical, on it.
It weighs 6.34g.
12th-14th century
