SCRAPER (TOOL)

Unique ID: NLM-32BDFE

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Dark chocolate brown flint, scraper. A small thumbnail scraper with broad parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface with a prominent striking platform. Angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curved edge. Thumbnail scrapers are usually assigned to the Early Bronze Age. However, the neat parallel trimming of the dorsal side may here commend an earlier date. This is also suggested by the distinctive material, which is probably of non-local origin and is usually associated with earlier forms of tool. Suggested date: Unknown, Late Mesolithic to Early Bronze Age, 7000-2350 BC.

Length: 20.9mm, Width: 19.6mm, Thickness: 6.7mm, Weight: 3.43gms
