An incomplete cast copper-alloy single-looped buckle and plate dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. The buckle is broadly oval in plan, with a slightly offset strap bar, transverse ridges to the ends of the strap-bar, and a knopped outer frame with co-incident recessed pin-rest. Wrapped around the strap-bar is the sheet-metal plate, which tapers towards its end and demonstrates a rectangular cut-out section in its front edge which would originally have housed the wound-wire pin (now missing in old damage). The terminal of the plate is missing, with the rear half of a circular aperture designed to house a circular-sectioned rivet still visible. Preserved in fair condition with an even green patina, it measures a total length of 23.64mm, the frame itself being 11.19mm wide and 1.82mm thick at its midpoint. It weighs 1.05g.
An identical buckle frame is published by Whitehead, see no. 72.
