A late medieval/ early post-medieval cast one piece copper alloy discoidal button with integral drilled shank, dating probably to c.1400-1700. It is circular in plan with a shallow concave upper face (convex to the reverse) and the diameter measures at 17.7mm. It measures 10.1mm in length and weighs 2.81g
Decoration is partially visible on the surface as it has been subject to damage so is difficult to establish a pattern. The decoration is recessed and engraved onto the surface in a series of triangular punches, following a zig zag of curved lines forming a possible flower of perhaps six or eight petals.
The button has a short rectangular shank with rounded edges and a circular perforation 3.7mm in diameter.
A similar example can be found in Read, 2005; p.16-17, nos.44-45.
