A complete lead-alloy token of medieval to post-medieval date, circa AD 1200 - 1800. The token is bi-faced and sub-circular in plan with a rectangular section. One surface is decorated with a six spoke wheel while the other side bears a double banded cross.
The metal has a mid-brownish-grey patina and is worn. The token is 20.6mm in diameter, 3.1mm thick and weighs 5.9g.
Tokens with simple designs are very easy to make and continued in use for a long period. They have a huge range of designs which were not necessarily related to function and could have been used for various purposes such as counting, gaming, farm or tavern tokens or possibly even as weights.
