A cast copper alloy buckle of post medieval date (c. AD 1720 - 1790). The buckle frame is rectangular in plan. In profile it is bowed/arched. The cross-section of the frame is mostly D-shaped. The iron central bar is still in place but is heavily corroded; it has been fitted through two drilled holes in the frame. It is unclear if the pin is still in place due to the iron corrosion. The frame of the buckle has cast lines around the outer edge of the frame, following the rectangular shape. The reverse is not visibly decorated. The buckle frame is light green in colour with small sections of dark green patina. The central bar and possibly pin have corroded and largely covered the centre of the buckle and part of the frame; it varies in colour from dark brown to a reddish brown. This brown colour of the corrosion is also apparent on parts of the frame. Two corners of the frame are slightly rounded which appears to be the result of abrasion. These areas of damage have light green areas of active corrosion present.

Similar buckles can be seen in Ross Whitehead's book 'Buckles 1250 - 1800', page 106. Example 676 is a close comparison which Whitehead suggests dates from the post medieval period (c. AD 1720-1790).

The buckle frame measures 30.13mm in length, 33.38mm in width and is 3.76mm thick. It weighs 10.29 grams.
