A fragment of a ceramic vessel of Roman date, c.AD 100 - 200. The vessel is a side sherd, including rim and base, from a local (unsourced) miscellaneous greyware dish. The rim is beaded and everted. The fabric is fine and sandy with a smooth feel. It is a pale grey colour throughout.

The sherd is 92.4mm x 73.8mm x 18.8mm. Weight: 64g. Overall diameter: 22cm (projected using rim chart); approx.12% remaining.

'Greyware' describes various types of locally produced pottery that were made in many different areas of Britain. They are one of the most common type of pottery found on Roman sites in Britain.
