COIN HOARD

Unique ID: IOW-4790F6

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

11 base metal Roman coins found close together (same 10-figure grid reference). The coins are so worn as to be illegible, but by their size and weight they appear to be mostly of the denomination known as the sestertius, with the smaller, lighter coins probably the fractions known as the dupondius or as. One coin can be tentatively identified as a coin of Hadrian (AD 117-138) and another is likely to be of Antonine date, that is circa AD 138-192)
