Four fragments of copper alloy metal working waste of uncertain date.

Fragment 1: A copper alloy irregular shaped piece of casting waste. The object has a flat semi-circular base with striations, possibly due to cooling on grass or straw. The object has a mid green pitted patina. Dimensions: 35mm in length, 38mm in width, 58.4g.

Fragment 2: A copper alloy fragment of casting waste. The object is L-shaped in plan and oval in cross-section with a rough undulating surface. Dimensions: 45mm in length, 30mm in width, 15mm thick, 50.5g.

Fragment 3: A small copper alloy fragment of metal working waste. The object is oval in plan and cross-section. Each surface is rough and undulating. It has a mid-green patina. Dimensions: 25mm in diameter, 5mm thick, 16.5g.

Fragment 4: A copper alloy fragment of casting waste. The object is irregular in form with a mid to dark green patina. Each surface is rough and undulating. Dimensions: 50mm in length, 46mm in width, 18mm thick, 75.2g.

Notes:

These objects were found in the same area as LVPL-0C459C a Bronze Age casting jet. However it is unclear whether or not they are associated and of similar date. Casting waste is difficult to date out of context. As casting waste represents re-usable metal, it was often retained and regularly turns up in founder's hoards. It can however also be found in isolation.

Due to the discovery of the Bronze Age casting jet within the same field these fragments may also date to the Bronze Age and may be associated. However this can not be known with certainty and casting waste of medieval and post-medieval date is also common.
