A Post Medieval copper alloy hooked tag or dress fastener dating to the 16th century.

The object consists of one piece of copper alloy with a curved rectangular in section hook placed vertically at the lower edge. The inverted-trapezoidal lobe placed at the upper edge of the dress fastener is now missing. The body of the fastener is broadly circular in plan. The integral hook is now slightly bent and distorted and would have once attached to another fastener on a garment. The end of the hook is rounded, possibly once pointed which has been damaged in antiquity.

The decoration consists of a central circular moulded impression surrounded by seven broadly circular perforations forming a moulded relief and openwork design. The reverse of the object is flat and undecorated. The object has a mid-brown to green coloured patina across all surfaces.

Read (2008) illustrates a dress hook on page 103, No.395, which is dated to the 16th century. There are similar examples recorded on the database (SUR-9FC092) discovered in Surrey and (KENT-E25E22) discovered in Essex.

The fastener measures 28.94 mm in length, 17.09 mm in width, and 1.55 mm in thickness. Weight: 1.4 grams.
