Grey-green stone possible polished axe roughout. An oval pebble of biconvex lentoid section with opposed curving edges, one more regular than the other, and with a rough and uneven surface. The finder kindly suggests this to be a possible Neolithic polished axe head fragment, though the rough surface would be more likely on a later stone 'battle axe' or maul. The form and profile are, however, reminiscent of a polished axe head. This stone might have been recovered from glacial Drift rather than from one or other of the attested sources of polished axes. Associated worked flints were mainly of Mesolithic date. Suggested date: Neolithic to Early Bronze Age, 4000-1600 BC.
