An incomplete Post-Medieval copper-alloy book clasp dating late 16th-17th century.

Description: Fitting survives as the hook section from a book clasp and is constructed from a cut piece of sheet copper-alloy. There is the stump of broad, flat hook projecting from one end and it flares at the opposite end. There are two rivet holes at the flared edge one in the centre of one of two concentric circles flanking the other hole. The central hole has iron corrosion adhering around it and much of the surrounding sheet metal, likely relating to a now missing rivet. The clasp has two small cutaway sections at two points along its length creating pronounced although not deep indents along its length. This creates 3 segments along its length. There is a second rivet hole roughly between the hook end indents. .

The upper face of the object is decorated, in addition to the concentric circles flanking the rivet hole at the attachment end there is extensive other decoration on the clasp. Over the two segments closest to the hook end are five flowers, four evenly arranged around in a rectangle around a central one. The flowers are made up of five petals. Along each edge is a set of hashed lines.

Measurements: 44.86mm long, 22.82mm wide, 2.03mm thick and 5.38g in weight.
