A fragment of a copper-alloy medieval strap end, dating to the period AD 1100-1500. It is rectangular in shape, measuring 35.15mm in length, 14.76mm wide (except where it tapers slightly inwards at the neck to 9.75mm). In cross-section it is triangular, measuring 3.42mm in thickness at the top and tapering out to 10.95mm. There are two breaks at the top, with what possibly remains of the base of a loop forming the now top of the object. Two raised ridges frame where the object tapers inwards, one either side. After the ridge, the body extends downwards and is broadly rectangular in shape, and is engraved with IHS. There is no further discernible decoration on the rest of the fragment. In total, the fragment weighs 11.26g and has a rough patina, being mid green in colour with patches of brown. The soil inside is the fragment is tightly packed, and dark brown in colour.
