Fragment of copper-alloy medieval casket key consisting of the middle section of the shank (broken at both ends) and an intact simple bit, c. 1100 - 1500 AD. The bit end of the shaft is hollow. The key has a dark green patina due to corrosion of the copper-alloy. The length is 68mm, the width is 20mm and the weight 16.75g.
There are a number of complete examples of similar keys on the database, including: YORYM - 59AA8A and LVPL - 70A078, the latter of which has been dated to the 14th century.
