STEELYARD WEIGHT

Unique ID: SF-B99E45

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete lead and copper alloy steelyard weight of possible Roman date. It is a slightly flattened spherical shape with the corroded remains of a copper alloy loop protruding from either end.

Although steelyard weights were in use from the Roman to post-medieval periods, examples with a central rod extending from both ends tend to be of Roman date.

Diameter: 30.10mm, length: 23.60mm, weight: 69.85g
