Fragment of a copper alloy object, possibly a hasp. The piece has a thin front plate which is now rectangular in plan with parallel sides and probably brocken edges top and bottom suggesting it was part of a longer strip originally. The front is plain and very smoothly finished. Projecting from the centre of the back is an integrally cast loop, U-shaped in profile and circular in cross section. The fragment is 22.1mm long, 13.8mm wide and 8.5mm thick, 0.9mm thick excluding the loop. It weighs 1.91g.
While the general form is right for a hasp the small size of the loop and it circular cross section could argue against this use. Probably Roman or Medieval in date but this is again uncertain.
