A silver halfcrown of Charles I, (1625-1649). Reverse: CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO; round shield with scrolls.
Dimensions: 33mm in diameter, 9.6g
It is of group III with bust type 3a3 and the initial mark a sun. The letter A in CAROLVS is produced from a broken letter punch as the foot of the letter is damaged. Date is AD1645-1646.
Notes:
The weight standard for halfcrowns of this period is 15.00g and at 9.6g this coin falls well below the standard. However the coin appears to be too well producted to be a contemporary copy and wear on the coin suggests that it has seen some circulation. Coins of this type are often of rough and course work.
