A lead early-medieval to post-medieval spindle whorl (AD c.500- c. 1700). The object is roughly conical, but quite flat. Both faces are decorated with irregular patterns of raised straight lines. The lines on the conical face resemble letters and may be pseudo script, possibly suggesting that the person who carved the mould was illiterate but attempting to write letters. The central perforation is circular and measures 9.7 mm in diameter. Overall, the spindle whorl measures 34.3 mm in diameter and 7.8 mm thick. It weighs 35.50 g.
