AD 800 - 1100). The whetstone is formed from a very fine-grained, sedimentary, mica-rich stone with distinct bedding planes. It is sub-rectangular in plan with tapering sides and is sub-rectangular in cross section at one end and sub-square in section at the other. Both ends are broken, probably in antiquity. Two opposing sides are flat but the other two opposing sides are dished, one more than the other, from continued use sharpening blades. All faces are very smooth. The stone is similar to other mica schist whetstones found at the same location.2017-10-01 09:15:342017-10-07 06:55:43412017-09-301Certain1114729PAS59D0A42600103E2828PUBLICStone11794Hand madeIncompleteGoodEARLY MEDIEVALEMx41022p0gjgrshhcwMEDIEVALMDx14221p0gjgrsxwzxChance find during metal detectingCircaCirca86745559425234531741423Restricted AccessTF4392TF49SWSkidbrooke1016316512017_0930_160228AA.jpg1416241Early-medieval whetstoneAll rights reserved4images/tomredmayne/East MidlandsOperations to a depth less than 0.25 mCultivated landEuropean RegionCountyLincolnshireDistrictEast LindseyCivil Parish53.42350.191137Restricted AccessReturned to finder96475
