LITHIC IMPLEMENT

Unique ID: KENT-BE0961

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A lithic tool uncertain date, possibly heat affected and also utilised as a hammer stone. Likely upper Paleolithic (c.40000-11000) or Neolithic-Early Bronze age date (c. 4000 BC - 1000 BC).

Description: The tool is roughly ovoid with a heavy cortex area in the centre of one side. The base has had flaking away from the centre leaving an apex point at the centre and the entire flint triangle in cross-section. The bifacial working can be described as invasive to covering, scaled and semi-abrupt. Parts of the flint have been heat affected and then battered likely indicating the object's subsequent use as a hammerstone.
