RETOUCHED FLAKE

Unique ID: YORYM-BD0D4A

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Retouched flint flake of Neolithic to Bronze Age date. Sub-triangular in plan and orange in colour with white inclusions. There are conchoidal fracture marks on the ventral face of the flint; these are spread out and so imply a soft blow method of production such as the use of a bone implement. There are further fracture marks along two edges of the flake, on the dorsal side only; these are small along the very edge with larger pieces flaked off towards the centre of the flake on one edge, representing two stages of reshaping. On the other retouched edge the flakes are slightly larger and represent a single stage of working. The object may have been discarded before it was completed. It is possible that a section has been broken from the top of the flake but this is impossible to tell for sure. The dimensions of the flake are: 34.37mm in length, 35.75mm in width and 3.89mm in maximum thickness. The weight of the object is 4.49g.

See SOM-BFF8D3 for a similar retouched but unfinished flake.
