French Medieval copper-alloy stock jetton of the 'I / R' type struck probably for the Queen and her almonry and dating the 14th century. Mitchiner 1988:157 . ref: 367
This is one of the smaller examples from a series of jettons thought to be initially associated with the household of the French queen. The I / R possibly standing for 'Ieton de la Royne'. A number have been discovered by the River Thames with 14th century material (Mitchiner ibid). They are rare in Britain outside London with only one other on the database: WILT-08ED17.
The edges are badly chipped.
