An incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy sword-belt toggle clasp (c. 1500-c. 1700).
Toggle clasps have two sections which lock together, one with an eye and the other with a toggle-bar; this artefact is the section with an eye. The eye is a rectangular open slot with a circular attachment loop on one side. The short ends of the slot are stepped forward and have traces of moulded 'rope work' decoration.
This object is largely light green and corroded with patches of a shiny darker green patina. The old break is abraded.
Length: 22.0mm; width: 20.9mm; thickness: 5.0mm. Weight: 3.98g.
A similar object has been published and classified as an Early post-medieval toggle-clasp, Type 6 (Read 2008: 210, ref: 762).
