An incomplete late Medieval to early Post-Medieval copper alloy double loop annular buckle, dating to circa AD 1450-1550.
The buckle is incomplete due to a missing pin. The buckle is decorated with moulded scalloping around the frame which gives the form of a five petalled flower. The central axis bar is narrowed and is broadly sub triangular in cross section. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The buckle has a dark brown coloured patina. The surface is very worn and was possibly originally black lacquered as seen on other examples.
Whitehead (1996, p.47) illustrates a similar buckle no 274, which is dated to c.AD 1450-1550. There are also a number of examples recorded on the PAs database including; HAMP-C8522E discovered in Hampshire and WAW-19CA63 discovered in Worcestershire.
The buckle measures 31.7 mm in length, 29.5 mm in width, and is 3.47 mm thick. The buckle weighs 6.3 g.
