An incomplete post medieval copper alloy rowel spur, probably dating c. 1600-1700 AD. The fragment consists of the neck of the spur which has a circular notched attachment that sits at right angles to the arms. Below the attachment is a rounded raised collar. The two arms curve outward from the attachment, and are oval in cross section. Both arms end in a worn break. The outside of the rowel spur has been decorated, on both sides below the attachment is a series of punched circles, followed by four incised diagonal lines, and then another section of punched circles. The rowel spur has a red brown patina with patches of light green. The rowel spur measures 61.7mm in length, 30.1mm in height, and weighs 17.34g.
Similar rowel spurs can be seen in Read 2001, page 60, 497-502.
