A complete late medieval or early post medieval zoomorphic copper alloy spout probably from a ewer (1400-1550). The spout is tubular, and terminates in a dog's head with an open mouth from which the circular spout protrudes. The dog's head is formed of moulded decoration, and has rounded ears, a squared brow and eyes. At the opposite end the spout curves through ninety degrees downwards and expands into a long open neck where it would have attached to the vessel. The spout has a very dark green to almost black patina. The head is 47.6mm long, and the dogs open mouth has an internal diameter of 6.4mm.

The spout measures 67.4mm in length, 49.2mm in height, 17.1mm in maximum width, 3.3mm in thickness, and weighs 56g.

A similar fixed spout from a pedestal-base ewer can be found illustrated in Lewis (1987, 4-5; fig. 8a).
